Our Community is Dead; Long Live Our Community

"The King is Dead; Long Live the King"

Wikipedia informs me that this cry -- a traditional proclamation upon the death of a king-- comes from the law of le mort saisit le vif : the transfer of sovereignty occurs instantaneously upon the moment of death of the previous monarch.  Thus a particular king may die, but the country is never without a king.

The death of Zaadz has crept up on me-- what, it's almost the 15th, already?  This is the last day of this form, this name?

We are an optimistic crew here, so eager to reassure each other of rebirth, to skip over to the constructive side of things.

But I wanted to linger here a moment, not to dwell on the past, but to let the death sink in... It's not really a rebirth until you've felt through the death, right?

Stillness, stillness.  A heartline goes flat.

And we are still here, holding space, into the void.

Love.

Still,,,is a community dead that has blogged, welcomed new members, commented, seeded, gathered seeds?

it is not a literal death, exactly.  i mean something along the lines of the feeling that a group of people have when an intense conference or even dinner party ends.  these things may well be part of a series, and you may know you'll see these people again in a few days, but still people linger and mill about as things wind down.  i don't know, Siona would put it better.  this form is ending, and that's a death.  i'm excited about the new layout, but still, i can taste the nostalgia of coming across a screenshot of 'this was the old Zaadz' and feeling oh yeah, i remember that, i remember when it was alive that way.

I love that you’re both so right. :)

I do think L’el’s captured something crucial. Loss is an intrinsic part of life. This community will continue, and the spirit that kindled Zaadz will shine still as bright and strong as ever, but there’s a loss or death that I think does bear grieving. The old site, the old look, and the old name is gone, and while life and grace and WE continue, something has changed.

I think sometimes it’s hard to hold this, and even harder to hold it and accept it with openness and love. For some reason we’ll tend to either resist change and cling to the past, or ignore the grief and move on to the next. It’s challenging to rest in that place of acceptance, and I love L’el’s sweet honoring of that.

The king is dead; long live the king. :)
